In the Premier League’s top-of-the-table clash between Elite and Cayman Athletic, there were plenty of goals and drama in an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Ed Bush stadium on Sunday.
David Connolly is on fire for Athletic this season, netting a brace in the 9th and 39th minutes to take his tally to 10.
Considering that in most of those games Connolly has gone on as a second half sub, that is a phenomenal scoring rate. The only reason he has not started many games is because Athletic technical director Ernie “Gillie” Seymour only picks players who consistently attend training sessions.
Connolly looked set to score more against Elite, but the lightning-fast striker let his emotions get the better of him, and he received a straight red card for abusive language for complaining to the officials because he felt over-zealous challenges on him were going unpunished.
Ten-man Athletic battled bravely but could not hold onto that two-goal cushion.
Dwayne “Gaza” Wright is back to his predatory best after injury, scoring in the 62nd and 79th minutes to bring his season’s tally to five. Kevin Foster got Athletic’s third in between Wright’s brace, and Raul Rodriguez hit Elite’s third with one minute to go.
Bodden Town missed the goal poaching input of Theron Wood in their first few matches, and he proved the difference between the sides with the only goals against George Town in the late match at the TE McField Annex.
Wood scored in the 45th and 67th minutes in their 2-0 win.
In the earlier Annex game, Ziecko Herrera bagged both Roma United’s goals – in the 35th and 77th minutes – in the 2-0 victory over Sunset.
In Saturday’s game on Cayman Brac, the home side grabbed a confidence-boosting first win of the season, beating Scholars International 3-2.
Rhojel Gayle (21st), Denrick Gayle (59th) and Danone Whittaker (64th) were the Brac heroes. Bob Connor (36th) and Rohann Williams (61st) hit the net for Scholars.
James “Paddy” Ebanks (Scholars) and Denrick Gayle (Roma) have struck five times for their clubs. On three goals are Christopher Ebanks (Cayman Athletic), Mark Ebanks (Elite), Theron Wood and Roma’s Herrera.
There are no club games this weekend. The next Premier League match is on Nov. 15 when Brac are at home again, this time hosting Roma. The games on Nov. 16 are at 5 p.m. when Scholars entertain Elite at Ed Bush and George Town hosts Cayman Athletic at the Annex.
