Crabbies cling to life

One of softball’s top seeds is barely hanging on to its title hopes.

Rackam’s Crabbies are set to play Home Gas on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m. The contest, taking place on field four at the Field of Dreams, serves as an elimination game in the 2014 Fall Adult Coed Softball League. The competition, organized by the Cayman Islands Little League Association, uses a double-elimination playoff system where teams are knocked out after suffering two losses.

Rackam’s won division two of the B League with a 10-1-1 record behind the likes of Daniel Kirkconnell. The Crabbies would lose their playoff opener to Green Tech Solar, 18-13, last Monday before eliminating the BritCay Premiums, 8-4, last Wednesday.

Michael Webster and Green Tech, 4-8, were near the bottom of the B League regular season standings while Kenneth Davis and BritCay, 5-6-1, were in the middle of the charts.

Shayne Howe and Home Gas would lose to the Coors Light Chuggers, 26-15, after beating Master Batters, 14-12, in their playoff opener. Home Gas, 6-5-1, were third in division one of the B League, Matt Bone and Coors Light were second at 6-4-1 while Ryan Pull and the Master Batters were near the cellar at 3-8-1.

Aside from the Rackam’s-Home Gas contest, Tuesday sees another elimination game featuring the Master Batters at 6:30 p.m. on field four. Field three stages a pair of playoff games as YMCA We’ve Got The Runs take on Dart at 6:30 p.m. before Green Tech and Coors Light square off at 8:15 p.m.
