A charge of rape was transmitted to the Grand Court on Monday after a male resident appeared before Magistrate Valdis Foldats.
The defendant was charged after an incident at the Holiday Inn on Friday, Nov. 7. He was further charged with possession of a prohibited weapon on the same date and at the same location, but the weapon was not specified.
The defendant, 38, was represented by attorney Amelia Fosuhene.
The magistrate noted that the Crown did not oppose bail and he set conditions that included no contact, direct or indirect, with the complainant. The defendant is also to live and sleep at a specified residence and he is not to go within 100 yards of a particular area.
Rape is a matter that can be dealt with only in the Grand Court. The charge was set for mention there on Friday, Nov. 21.
