Police released details Monday of two muggings over the weekend.
A man armed with a knife mugged a couple walking along the waterfront on North Church Street at 1:30 a.m. Saturday. In the other incident, a man tried to grab a woman’s handbag at 6:30 p.m. Sunday along the same road.
In the Saturday incident, the suspect walked the couple to the male victim’s parked car nearby and took a handbag before running off.
Police described the suspect as 30 to 35 years old, dark-skinned, around 5-feet, 8 inches to 5-feet, 9-inches tall with a skinny build, wearing a hooded top and jeans.
In the Sunday incident, police said a man tried to grab a woman’s handbag on North Church Street. Police said a scuffle ensued and the man ran away.
Police subsequently arrested a George Town man, 34, Sunday night after the attempted purse snatching. He remains in police custody on suspicion of robbery.
Adrian Seales with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Services said, “We think they’re connected.” As of press time he could not confirm whether the man would be charged in relation to both incidents.
