The charity fun run of the year will bring plenty of Christmas cheer.
The Jingle Bell Run will see hundreds of enthusiastic runners and walkers hitting the pavement on Dec. 14 at the Holiday Inn Resort. Competitors will be supporting the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre and the work it does assisting some of the community’s most vulnerable people.
Thanks to main sponsors Greenlight Re, Maples and Calder and LIME, this event is expected to raise more than $40,000 – which goes directly to fund the operations of the island’s only women’s emergency shelter. For Crisis Centre fundraising committee chair Melisa Johnson, the funding is invaluable.
“This event could not happen without the amazing support of the community and we want to give a very special thanks to all of the companies and individuals who have donated time and funding,” Johnson said. “This event is our major fundraiser for the year and the [Crisis Centre] relies heavily on it for its operations.”
Registration is $25 and includes a full breakfast on the beach, as well as gifts from Santa for every child registered. The first 300 registrants also get a free T-shirt. Raffle prizes supplied by sponsors include Cayman Airways return tickets to Tampa and to Miami, a staycation with breakfast at the Westin and another from Comfort Suites, and vouchers for the island’s hottest restaurants up for grabs.
