A new doctor at Chrissie Tomlinson Memorial Hospital will start offering cancer treatments at the end of the year. The hospital has also recruited a registered nurse from Canada, Elaine Semchuk, with experience in oncology/chemotherapy.
Dr. Dwight Lowe, from the University Hospital of the West Indies in Jamaica, will make regular trips to Cayman to treat patients at the downtown George Town hospital. Patients from Cayman regularly have to go to the United States for cancer treatments. The new service at Chrissie Tomlinson would allow people with cancer to stay on the island for the treatments that, in some cases, can last months, hospital officials said in a press release.
The hospital expanded its cancer treatment unit earlier this year with additional capacity for chemotherapy patients.
