Storm intend to blow Iguanas away, try to stay on top

The Dart Alex Alexander Memorial Trophy competition returns at the South Sound ground Saturday after the holiday break.

While many local rugby players took full advantage of the time off the pitch to enjoy time with family and friends, others just could not stay away from the pitch, and two friendly games helped keep players match fit.

One charity fundraiser dubbed Elves v Reindeers raised about $600, and the annual Boxing Day President’s XV v Captain’s XV was a hit, as always. The Cayman Rugby Union provided complimentary turkey dinner and champagne to all patrons on the day.

The Fidelity Bank Cayman Storm are top of the table after a resounding 40-24 point win over the Advance Fire and Plumbing Buccaneers in their last outing and will take on the struggling John Doak Architecture Iguanas, who lost for a second time so far, 34-32, to the Queensgate Pigs Trotters in their last outing.

The Iguanas will be buoyed by key players returning from injury, but the Storm are on a roll thanks to Blake “YouTube” James tallying up the points for his team.

The Pigs Trotters edged the Iguanas by two points to take their first win of the season and now face a bruised Buccaneer side. The latter fought strongly against the Cayman Storm and were in control in the early stages, only to capitulate to a continued onslaught from the Storm, who opened up the scoring flood gates in the closing stages to notch up 40 points.
