Taste of Cayman 2015 promises to entertain

A tribute band that features the sounds of Neil Diamond, the Bee Gees and Cher, along with local bands Heat and Suite Elite, will add an entertaining note to the 2015 Taste of Cayman.

The food and wine festival, on Feb. 7 at Camana Bay, is organized by the Cayman Islands Tourism Association.

“We are so excited about the entertainment we have planned … because we think it will enhance the festival experience for the attendees, sponsors and vendors alike,” said Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks, executive director of CITA.

A Canadian tribute group will perform a Classic Legends in Concert, comprised of three acts covering Neil Diamond, the Bee Gees and Cher. Night Fever is described as the world’s number one Bee Gees production, backed by studio musicians.

Kara Chandler performs as Cher, capturing the vocals, look and stage presence of the icon in concert. Will Chalmers mimics Neil Diamond and is said to be the number one Neil Diamond impersonator in Canada.

Locally, five-piece Suite Elite’s musical diversity makes for an interesting and unique experience at any performance.

Heat band is a dynamic blend of musical styles based on the Caribbean rhythms of each member’s heritage.

“Last year there was a ‘70s cover band alongside a local band which was a huge success so we decided not to change a proven formula,” said Dixon-Ebanks. “Both the tribute band and these two local musical powerhouses will appeal to a wide cross-section of festival-goers who will be able to enjoy a full evening followed by an amazing concert. We invite everyone to come for the food and stay for the party.”

Now in its 27th year, Taste of Cayman represents a variety of the islands’ best restaurants. Ticket-holders can sample food and beverages at many booths and enjoy a chef competition, demo kitchen, mixology competition, heavy cake competition and fireworks.

Tickets are on sale for $40 per person, or $20 for those 17 years and under. The event is free for those 5 and under. Tickets can be purchased online at www.tasteofcayman.org, or at Books & Books, Celebrations Store in Camana Bay, all Blackbeard’s and Big Daddy’s locations, Funky Tang’s and the ClTA Office.

Drink tickets can also now be purchased in advance at the CITA office. For more information, visit www.tasteofcayman.org, email [email protected] or call 949-8522.
