Young golfer gains international experience
Justin Hastings, who is only 11 years old, is getting plenty of golf experience for someone so young.
He was runner-up in his age group in the Caribbean Amateur Junior Championships last month and was competing again last week.
Hastings qualified to play in the US Kids Golf World Championship at Pinehurst, North Carolina.
He was in a field of 150 boys aged 11 from all across the globe. His scores of 78, 75 and 76 were good enough to place him well up the field, just outside the top third.
This is an impressive result for the youngster who was playing in his first international event outside the Caribbean against the top juniors in the world, and whose first real experience of competitive golf was only two years ago when Cayman hosted the Caribbean junior event.
The next big junior golf event is the Cayman Islands Junior Championships, sponsored by HighWater, at North Sound Golf Club on Aug. 29-30.
