Ramos needs another fast ride

The busy cycling season resumes this weekend with a 48-mile road race.

It goes from Hurley’s roundabout to East End, Queen’s Highway, North Side, Frank Sound and back to the Hurley’s/South Sound roundabout, on Sunday, starting at 7 a.m.

The 2015 road race champion Pedro Lopez Ramos and 2015 Individual TT champion Jerome Ameline will have strong competition from Michele “Mitch” Smith, Steve Abbott, Wade Tamaso and Brent Cunha.

Also expected to be among the fastest is the 2015 masters winner David Cooke, as well as veterans Richard Pascal and Perri “Duke” Merren.

In the women’s division, 2015 champion Rachel Gooden will have stiff competition from Ceretta Harvey, Risa Golberg and Elizabeth Berns.

A 10-mile individual time trial is the event after that, on Sept. 6. It is from Paradise Restaurant on the waterfront, along South Sound to the Hurley’s roundabout and back to Paradise Restaurant.
