Severe weather is predicted to affect the Cayman Islands over the next 24-36 hours, according to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service.
The service issued a severe weather bulletin Saturday morning advising residents that models are predicting 1.5 inches to 2 inches of rainfall through Sunday. This may lead to flooding of low-lying areas, and the weather service is advising residents in those areas to take precautions to prevent water intrusion into properties.
The service is also advising boat operators to take precautions in open waters, as strong winds and rough seas are characteristic of such periods of heavy rainfall.
The predicted rainfall is associated with the remnants of Erika, which was downgraded from a tropical storm Saturday after pummeling Dominica, where it killed 20 people.
The Cayman Islands National Weather service will issue its next bulletin at 4 p.m. Saturday.
