BMW driver bailed after road death

A 35-year-old Bodden Town man has been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in the aftermath of a fatal road collision on Saturday.

Young father Matthew Owens was killed after he was knocked from his motorcycle in a collision that also involved a Toyota Mark II and a BMW on the Linford Pierson Highway around 1 a.m.

On Monday, the driver of the Toyota remained in hospital, where his condition was described as stable. The driver of the BMW was treated for minor injuries and released from hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI and bailed to return to the police station on Tuesday.

Mr. Owens, 31, who worked at the Atlantic clothing store in George Town and had a baby son, was the eighth person to die on Cayman’s roads this year.
