Nicole Miller brings fashion week to Cayman

Fashionistas will want to ensure they set aside the evening of Nov. 5.

Popular American designer Nicole Miller will showcase her Spring 2016 collection one night only at Camana Bay, featuring some 35 looks and including a host of designs from sporty-inspired and wide-legged pants to cold-shoulder tops and mixed prints.

Called “Street Sweet,” the collection was inspired by the juxtaposition of New York’s stunning pockets of nature alongside the city’s striking architecture.

The Street Sweet collection was featured earlier this year at New York and Paris fashion weeks, and the Camana Bay event will be set up to mimic these two shows.

The event is organized by fashion boutique NKY Collections and the Cayman chapter of charitable organization 100 Women in Hedge Funds.

“When 100WHF spoke about wanting to do a charitable event around an international fashion designer, I contacted Nicole Miller’s team and they were immediately on board to come to Cayman and showcase their Spring 2016 line at NKY and be part of this wonderful fundraising cause,” said Nicola de Lima of NKY.

The fashion show

The event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail reception, followed by the fashion show at 6 p.m. Walking the runway will be local models, including Miss Cayman Tonie Chisholm, TV personality and model Monica Walton, and Paris Broad. Nicole Miller will also be in attendance and will give a short talk about her design inspiration.

“Everything from the show, stage, set up, music and fashion looks going down the runway will make every person sitting in the audience feel like they are sitting front row at New York Fashion Week,” de Lima said. “It will be a very memorable event.”

The brand

Nicole Miller trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris. She opened her first shop in 1986 on Madison Avenue in New York City, and the brand has since grown to include six freestanding Nicole Miller stores in the U.S. and Brazil. Nicole Miller apparel and accessories are available at high-end retailers, including Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks and Bloomingdales, and specialty boutiques across the globe, including NKY Collections, Camana Bay.

The nonconformist glamour of Miller’s creations has earned her many fans in Hollywood. Angelina Jolie, Halle Barry, Beyonce, Joss Stone and Felicity Huffman are among those who have recently appeared in her designs.

“Nicole Miller is hugely popular in Cayman,” de Lima said. “She knows how to design a dress that flatters every woman’s body shape and uses the most exquisite fabrics and color palettes.”

Tickets are $100 and are available online at; the Discovery Centre, Camana Bay; NKY Collections; or from any 100WHF Cayman committee member. Proceeds will be donated to Literacy Is For Everyone, the 2015 philanthropic beneficiary for 100WHF Cayman.
