Pirates Week entrants continue deep commitment to sea swim

The Pirates Week Open Water 5K, which has been staged for 35 years, is on Saturday, and only the fittest swimmers are likely to enter this arduous event. It is sponsored by Pirates Week and KPMG and starts and finishes at the Beach Suites. Registration is from 6:15-7 a.m. and the race begins at 7:30 a.m. There is no online registration.

“The Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association is making a difference in the current and future swimmers of the Cayman Islands, which is important to us,” said Sheenah Hislop of KPMG.

“KPMG is proud to support this organization in their endeavors as they continue to develop and excel in the sport of swimming.”

Entry fee is $25 for CIASA members; $30 for non-members.

The 5K open water swim is a challenging distance and support from the public is appreciated, said the organizers. Some swimmers will be tackling this distance for the first time.

All swimmers are provided with swim caps, which must be worn for safety reasons and there are event T-shirts, trophies for the top three male and female finishers in each age group and refreshments provided at the end of the race.
