Man killed in car crash

A 21-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a one-car accident on West Bay Road.

Police identified the man as Lanado Martin Waugh from George Town.

The crash happened around 2:14 a.m. near the Galleria Plaza on West Bay Road, police said. The car had been traveling in the direction of George Town.

Chief Inspector Claudia Brady said Mr. Waugh was the only occupant of the vehicle, a silver-colored Honda Accord. He was trapped inside the car and emergency services reported that he appeared “unconscious and was not breathing,” she said.

He was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Chief Inspector Brady said.

Including this accident, there have been 10 fatalities as a result of vehicle accidents in the Cayman Islands so far this year. In 2014, there were four fatalities caused by vehicle accidents.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or seen the vehicle prior to the crash to contact the investigating officer, constable Orville Harris, at George Town Police Station at 949-4222, the RCIPS tip line at 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS).

  1. There is no traffic police so what do we expect to happen on the streets? When a high paid expert comes from overseas to tell us that we need traffic police to patrol our roads at this time is when the light will turn on up stairs.

  2. Another young person taken so swiftly from us. God be with his family and may they find find comfort with the Holy Spirit.
As a community, we can only pray and be steadfast in our faith to change what is happening.
I heard a story last week, and until this moment I am still thinking about it..
A lady from one of the churches related a serious story that was told to her by a Taxi Driver on the Island.
Saying that on a trip one night a year after Hurricane Ivan this Taxi driver picked up three ladies dressed all alike in black clothing who asked him to take them to areas/locations of all the churches on the Island.
He took them to all the Large founding churches he knew of through out the island, They never spoke and only spent five minutes just staring at the churches; and after about an hour and a half tour he took them back to George Town. They pay him the fair and disappeared in the night.
We can have all sorts of thoughts in our minds as to what this was all about; however for those of us who believe in prophecy something sinister has visited the island and capturing our young people..

  3. How sad when a life is taken because of a vehicular accident. The victim’s family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers. It is hoped that in response to the police request, anyone who may have witnessed the accident will contact the investigating officer accordingly.
