50 years ago: A visit and a birth

In the Feb. 2, 1966 edition of the Caymanian Weekly, a precursor of the Cayman Compass, East End correspondent Charles Dixon wrote:

“A party was arranged by relatives and friends on the 28th Jan to say ‘welcome’ to Mr. Oriel Rankine who arrived on the 26th from the U.S. He joined his wife Mrs. Evangaline Rankine who also returned from the U.S. a few weeks before. They plan to spend four or five weeks before returning.

“The third child – and second son – was born to Mr. and Mrs. McDawn Frederick on Jan. 24. The husky boy weighed 11 lbs.

“The past week has been an extremely cold and windy one for residents of this district. The coldest night was Thurs. when the thermometer fell to 60 degrees.

“Mrs. Myothan Powell of Breakers would like to express her joy at seeing her son-in-law, Esau Brooks of Honduras, who arrived on Sunday 23rd.

“She was also glad to see her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Nancy Powell, and her children who live at North West Point, West Bay, and who had not visited Breakers for over nine years.”
