Diver airlifted from Little Cayman

A diver who got into difficulty during a dive in Little Cayman was airlifted by police helicopter to Grand Cayman on Saturday, police reported.

Just before noon, police said, Faith Hospital on Cayman Brac requested an emergency evacuation for the 46-year-old female diver who had nearly drowned and was in need of urgent intensive care.

“No other options for the transport of the patient were available,” a police spokeswoman said.

The Air Operations Unit flew to Little Cayman with an attendant from the Health Services Authority in Grand Cayman. The diver was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital in George Town by 3:30 p.m. and was reported to be in stable condition after receiving the care required.
