50 years ago: East End Echoes

In the March 9, 1966 edition of the Caymanian Weekly, a precursor of the Cayman Compass, East End correspondent Charles Dixon wrote:

“Mr. Harris Conolly returned from Jamaica on Feb. 21 after spending a short vacation with friends. Also returning was Mr. Leslie Forbes who spent some time with friends in Jamaica.

“Mr. Deavy Conolly returned to the island on Feb. 25 to spend his vacation. Mr. Kevon Conolly left on the same day to resume work with N.B.C.

“MLA for this district, Mr. W.W. Conolly, met the rope makers on the Feb. 21 at his premises the ‘Bright Spot.’

“Ways and means for improving the output of rope were discussed, as there has been an increasing demand for it in Jamaica.

“Mr. Conolly will attend conferences in Jamaica on this matter and it is anticipated that there will be a rise in the price now paid to makers.”
