The public is invited to attend a flag hoisting ceremony on Monday, Commonwealth Day, at the Government Administration Building grounds on Elgin Avenue.
The event, organized by the Protocol Office, is part of the newest Commonwealth initiative, Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth.
Governor Helen Kilpatrick will raise the Commonwealth flag after Premier Alden McLaughlin reads out the Commonwealth Affirmation.
The honorary representative of the local Royal Commonwealth Society, Lemuel Hurlston, will read a message from Commonwealth General Secretary Kamalesh Sharma.
The flag raising ceremony will begin at 9:50 a.m.
Following the ceremony, a Youth Parliament in the Legislative Assembly will begin at 10:30 a.m. The public is also invited to attend this event.
The Youth Parliament, hosted by the Cayman Islands branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, will give high school students an understanding of Legislative Assembly proceedings when they become “parliament members” for the day and take part in a motion as either opposition or government members.
This year’s motion in Youth Parliament will be on establishing a master public transportation system.
