Cayman Heart Fund is hosting its free annual Heart Smart Health Fair on Saturday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Arts and Recreation Centre, Camana Bay.
Those interested in taking positive steps to educate themselves and their families on a range of preventative measures to ward off heart illnesses are encouraged to attend this family-friendly event.
As well as exhibitors’ stalls from many of the top local health facilities such as the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority and Health City Cayman Islands, the fair is also attracting specialists and health administrators from many of North America’s top care centers. For general well-being monitoring, the Heart Smart Health Fair is also setting up a half-dozen or so screening booths.
Chat with the team from Baptist Health International, Holy Cross Hospital, Johns Hopkins, Broward Health, the Cleveland Clinic and others about ongoing health concerns and specialist treatment options. Find out whether your blood pressure, body mass index and cholesterol numbers are normal, and talk to clinicians who can tell you ways to improve your numbers to keep healthy and active longer. Those who want to have their HBAC1 (blood sugar levels) measured should remember not to eat or drink 10 hours before attending the fair.
Visitors over age 18 who register to become a blood donor at the fair will get a complimentary plant from Vigoro Nursery.
As the Heart Smart Health Fair is geared toward all ages, look out for the Get Active Kids’ Zone, a yoga demonstration by the Heart Health Centre, and a range of fun activities for the children to try out and join in, including karate and dancing.
Cayman Heart Fund vice chairperson, Dr. Bella Beraha, said, “The mission statements of the Cayman Heart Fund include implementing educational and awareness programs for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, and improving the general health of the Cayman Islands community. The annual Heart Smart Health Fair embodies these statements.
“This Saturday we will have the opportunity to share with our attendees educational and awareness material; show our youth how to eat healthier and exercise; and provide those with limited access to healthcare free screenings and the opportunity to sit one-on-one with experts to discuss their health issues and goals.”
Several local companies are supporting the Cayman Heart Fund’s efforts, including Foster’s Food Fair, which has selected the organization as its Charity of the Month.
