The Cayman Islands swim team collecting four medals on the first day of the Carifta Games in Martinique.
In addition to earning these medals on Tuesday, Cayman’s swim athletes also secured places in individual event finals that will play throughout the four-day event.
Representing Cayman at the regional games are 22 swimmers, ranging in ages 11 to 17.
Holly Stradling and Ria Plunkett secured silver and bronze, respectively, in the women’s 800-meter freestyle for competitors aged 13-14.
John Bodden and Edward Weber made the cut for the men’s 1,500m freestyle in the 15-17 age category.
In the women’s 200m breaststroke, Sabine Ellison won gold, and Stephanie Royston placed well in the 11-12 age bracket. Ella Plunkett will be swimming in the finals in the 15-17 age category.
In the 50m backstroke, Benjamin Somerville secured a place in the men’s 11-12 age group. Alison Jackson has a place in the women’s 13-14 age category, and Ella Plunkett and Lauren Hew are in the 15-17 group.
Isabela Watler has also secured a spot in the 100m butterfly in the 11-12 category.
