A man found floating in the water just off Public Beach on Thursday has become the Cayman Islands’s fifth water-related fatality since the start of 2016.
On Friday morning, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service identified the man as Yanbin Liu, a visitor from the state of North Carolina.
According to the RCIPS, the 43-year-old was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital after he was found. He was pronounced dead early Thursday afternoon.
The incident marks the third water related fatality to occur in the Cayman Islands during March. Two other incidents were reported from January.
The number does not include five missing boaters, including two children, who were lost in Cayman’ territorial waters near 12-Mile Bank on March 6. That incident is being investigated as a missing persons case after police called off their search and recovery operation.
