The annual Cayman Islands Amateur Championships runs Saturday and Sunday at the North Sound Golf Club. The golf tournament comprises four scratch divisions and three divisions played off handicap.
“We are expecting more than 70 golfers to take part at the weekend, competing in the seven different divisions,” said Dan Fortune, tournament committee chairman.
“We always organize the event so that the leaders of the men’s Championship Flight finish last, which gives the rest of the field an opportunity to watch them come in – and to cheer the winning putt on the 18th hole.”
Talking about both the Amateur Championships, and golf in general in Cayman, CIGA President Paul Woodhouse said, “We are delighted that TRAC have come on board as title sponsor of this event. They have also joined with CIGA and the North Sound Golf Club to form a three-way partnership to develop golf across the community in Cayman. This means increasing participation and hopefully enjoyment of the game across juniors, adults (especially ladies) and families.”
Outlining some of the plans for 2016, he said, “CIGA and the NSGC will be working together to introduce a range of programs and initiatives aimed at all these groups …. One of our key objectives for the next couple of years is to take golf into more schools and expand this program still further.” He also thanked other sponsors for their continuing support.
