Cayman Islands designers Norma Ebanks, Isy B, K. Rose and Olivia B were among the local, regional and international designers featured at the grand finale of Cayman Islands Fashion Week at the Lions Centre on Saturday evening. Hundreds turned out to see the models strutting the runway, showing off diverse and fanciful designs.
Corr Kendricks, an actor in the hit TV series “Empire,” joined Miss Jamaica Universe 2014, model and TV host Kaci Fennell as the evening’s hosts.
The runway show kicked off with the bridal collection by Irina Shabayeva, winner of the sixth season of “Project Runway” and then moved to the popular kids portion.
Fifteen-year-old Angelica Dodds and 11-year-old Rochelle Ebanks, the event’s youngest design talent, and a contingent of young models wowed the audience with their collection.
“We’ve seen local designers rise to prominence, launch their brands, seen them go international, sent them off to school [and] created a platform for our local models to be exposed to the international world of modeling,” Cindy Rosan-Jones, executive producer of Cayman Islands Fashion Week, said in a statement.
“We’ve seen stores open with confidence; sales in stores have grown exponentially. Businesses such as stylists and makeup artists have come of importance; the interest in fashion journalism and video and photography is on the rise; and here you have such young talent feeling confident enough to launch into a design career at such tender ages.”
Ms. Rosan-Jones describes Cayman Islands Fashion Week as “the top, unrivaled fashion event in the Caribbean and Miami regions.”
“Despite the trials, we are indeed extremely proud of what has been created through the CIFW platform.”
