Sylvia Christian was a seamstress, thatch maker and one heck of a good singer on the island of Cayman Brac.
When she sang Hank Williams’s “May you never be alone like me,” her sweet voice would send chills down your spine. This photo was taken of her on Mother’s Day sometime in the mid-1980s. She passed away in 2009, leaving nine children and 29 grandchildren.
This photograph is from the book ‘The People Time Forgot’ by George Nowak, available at the National Museum. All proceeds from the sales of the book go toward museum projects.
