Pole fire caused power outage in West Bay

A fire on a Caribbean Utilities Company pole cut power to about 1,700 customers in West Bay on Wednesday night.

The fire cut electricity to parts of West Bay at 7:24 p.m., according to CUC. The company said most customers had power back within an hour, but some whose homes are in the immediate vicinity of the pole did not get electricity back until 12:20 a.m. CUC said a pole fire near Pearlies Lane on West Church Street caused the outage.

CUC spokesman Neil Murray said there were rain showers in the area at the time Most of these types of outages are caused by rain and salt on the power lines “coming into contact with our equipment” and causing a fire on the pole, Mr. Murray said.

The outage affected CUC customers around West Church Street, Willie Farrington Drive and Town Hall, North West Point, Watercourse and Hell roads.
