Lip sync competitions were a big deal a few decades ago, and then they quietened down for a while. RuPaul revived the art with her “Lip Sync For Your Life” portion of the hit show “Drag Race,” followed by Jimmy Fallon on “The Tonight Show,” and LL Cool J and Chrissy Teigen on Spike’s “Lip Sync Battle.” Now local audiences can come out to watch a live competition at the Harquail Theatre on Friday.
The “Keep Calm Paddle On” organization is presenting this unusual (and guaranteed to be hilarious) night of entertainment to raise money for the National Council of Voluntary Organizations (NCVO) and the Special Needs Foundation Cayman (SNFC).
Lip sync for votes
There will be 13 contestants battling it out on the stage, putting everything they’ve got into their performances in order to encourage the audience to vote for them.
Expect costumes, make-up and perhaps some extraordinary dance moves as they try to woo the voters.
The evening begins with a happy hour at 5:30 p.m., featuring live music, drink specials and food provided by Smokin Bros. Then everyone takes their seats for the main event, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Hosts Monica Walton and Joe Avary will introduce the acts, keep the night flowing and encourage people to buy raffle tickets and participate in the auction scheduled for the evening.
All the money raised on the night will be split evenly between the NCVO and the SNFC, so if you’re a supporter of either organization, or would just like a great night’s entertainment, you’ll want to get tickets for this lip sync competition.
Tickets are $25 for adults and include two drinks; $15 for children. To buy tickets or for more information, email [email protected] or call Yaz at 326-4714/Nik at 926-4720.
