Student filmmakers to walk red carpet

After a lot of nail-biting and creative juices flowing, the big night is finally approaching.

The Young Image Makers Red Carpet Premiere will take place on June 30 at the Harquail Theatre at 7 p.m.

This event marks the close of the 2016 YIM program, which provided the 11 finalists the opportunity to sharpen their technical skills and explore their creativity through the art of filmmaking.

The young artists will be given a taste of the Hollywood experience when they are treated to a private dinner before the red carpet premiere. The latter will be hosted by Miss Cayman Islands Monyque Brooks and local actor Jevaughnie Ebanks. A special guest celebrity will also be in attendance, but the name is under wraps until all is revealed on the night.

At the annual event, two students – one each from the junior and senior categories – will win a summer movie camp experience at the New York Film Academy courtesy of the Department of Tourism.

One additional movie camp prize is being awarded by the Department of Tourism to the winner of the Cayman Through My Eyes Video Challenge, a special category in Young Image Makers this year. The winner of the People’s Choice Award will also be named and given a prize provided by Cathy Church’s Photo Center.

The premiere starts the second annual CayFilm Festival, which runs from July 1-4. All three winners will get VIP passes to attend the festival screenings, including the closing night gala, when they will receive their trophies.

Guest judges for YIM 2016 included Frank E. Flowers, Tony Mark, Sean Bodden, Judy Singh, Delisa Hernandez and Josh Pearl.

A concession stand will be open on the night, serving gourmet popcorn, hot dogs, candies and more, and as admission is free, the public is encouraged to attend and support the young filmmakers. Dress code is semiformal, in keeping with the red carpet theme.
