The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens is celebrating two decades of its Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign in the Cayman Islands.
Since the campaign began 20 years ago, the club says, thousands of people have benefited from the educational program, which involves partnerships with healthcare providers. The club has sponsored about 10,000 mammogram vouchers, spending between $30,000 and $50,000 a year on the cost of screenings.
The club has also helped with the healthcare and associated costs of 275 people, in Cayman and overseas.
As in previous years, the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens is organizing a number of events throughout October to highlight and raise funds for breast cancer awareness.
On Sunday, Oct. 9, the annual Brenda Tibbetts-Lund 5K/10K Memorial Run/Walk, starts from the Holiday Inn Resort at 6 a.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 23, the 2016 Cut-a-thon will be at Eclipze Hair Design in Camana Bay, and Friday, Oct. 28, will be Dress Down/Dress Pink Day.
Runners and walkers taking part in Sunday’s event can pre-register at the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Pink Shop in Room 120, Elizabethan Square (opposite the Office Lounge), on Shedden Road. Registration up until Friday will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Registration is $25 and the first 500 participants will receive a T-shirt and gift bag, in addition to an opportunity to win spot prizes after the event.
