KRI Performing Arts, under the artistic directorship of Kirk Rowe, will be presenting the Cayman Islands’ 3rd International Dance Festival, CayDance, this week.

Dance workshops at the government schools started on Wednesday and run through Friday, and the welcome party with a salsa workshop was held on Thursday at Margaritaville.

This weekend will see a number of dance performances at various locations on the island. Building on the success the festival has had in its preceding years, CayDance will showcase Cayman’s local talent, along with professional dancers from around the globe. KRI Performing Arts

KRI was founded in 2007 by Kirk Rowe, Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer, and currently has 60 students enrolled.

KRI believes dance is an excellent character builder and benefits each and every person, either as a recreational hobby or a step towards a career in dance.

Over the past 10 years, KRI has become a household name in the Cayman Islands as a place where the youth can develop and hone their talents, realize their dreams and, in the process, provide an enabling environment for artistic expression.

KRI has worked with many governmental departments, educational institutions, foundations and companies to enhance their cultural projects and ensure the legacy of Cayman’s culture is preserved for generations to come.

Miss Cayman, Miss Teen Cayman, Cayfest, Carifta Games, Jazz Fest, and Taste of Cayman are just some of the many events for which KRI’s dancers have performed.

Part of KRI’s mission is to create a school that provides instruction in the various disciplines of dance, music, art and drama.

National Dance Theatre Company

The National Dance Theatre Company is a voluntary organization of dancers, singers, musicians, technicians and administrators of diverse professional backgrounds. Formed in 1962 by Rex Nettleford and Eddy Thomas, the company’s extensive repertoire reflects a long tradition of dance and music describing Jamaica’s ancestral underpinnings and the establishment of dance as an art form rooted in contemporary cultural realities of Jamaica and the Caribbean.

The company members are guided by the belief that dance, music and song will help to promote cultural awareness while fostering nation building through commitment, dedication, discipline and sustained application.

Tickets for the Final Showcase are available at the door or in advance from KRI Performing Arts, Funky Tangs and Tortuga Rum (Industrial Park). Adults: $50 (VIP) or $25(regular); Children (under 12): $15. For more information, check out the CayDance Facebook Page, email [email protected] or call 924-4089.
