Twenty-three golfers took part in the fifth round of the Digicel Junior Golf Series on March 26 at the North Sound Golf Club.

The golfers competed in four categories, earning awards for their performance and accumulating points toward the overall series championship.

Nine boys competed in the 18-hole division, which was scored net of handicaps. Aaron Jarvis, a scratch golfer without the benefit of a handicap reduction, shot a 4-under par 67 to win the tournament. Tom Dickens was in second with a net 71, and Justin Hastings and Todd Purton tied with 72, with third-place awarded to Todd on the count-back.

Eight boys played in the 9-hole division, which was scored on a gross basis, with no deductions for handicaps. Danny Lyne won the round with a 39 and also earned a prize for longest drive and closest to the pin. Zachary Garnett took second place with a 44, followed by Luke Dodson and Ben Croucher, both shooting 45. Third-place was awarded to Luke on a count-back.

The format of the girls 18-hole division was also scored on a net basis. Lauren Needham shot an impressive 10-under par 61, after handicap deduction, to win the division. In the girls 9-hole division, Tabitha Hawkins earned top honors with a one-stroke lead over Beth Walton.

Digicel CEO Martin Bould presented the awards and congratulated the golfers on their performance. He noted that the competition format “encourages all of the juniors to come out and play. The tournaments alternate among gross and net stroke play and stableford [scoring] formats, giving these golfers a chance to measure their skills against the best in Cayman, while also allowing them challenge the top dogs in the more equitable net and stableford formats.”
