Week 5 of the Cayman Islands Flag Football Association’s 2017 Burger King coed season on March 24 at the Ed Bush Field featured match-ups of teams eager to help with their division seedings.
Uncle Clem’s faced Walkers going into the match undefeated at 3-0. Walkers started the game strong, a press release states, with Brad Connolly leading the team as quarterback. However, Walkers seemed unable to convert their big plays into points. Uncle Clem’s, on the other hand, found the open spots on the field and the occasional opportunity to throw the ball deep. Uncle Clem’s won 39-0. Walkers’ record is 2-2.
Last year’s reigning B-league champions Kirk Freeport faced the veteran Burger King team. Led by Garry “Peanut” Rutty, the Burger King players were determined not to back down. Kirk Freeport, however, scored one more touchdown over BK, winning 12-6.
This week, Kirk Freeport faces off against the NCB Islanders, who pulled off a close 12-8 win over Dart. It should be noted that Week 5’s players of the week are both from the NCB team, Michael Swaby and Nikki Ebanks. Both players were key aspects in their win over Dart.
Another big match-up was between Maples and Bogle Insurance. Both teams went into this game with a record of 2-1. Bogle, a new team this year, did not seemed fazed by the veteran squad of Maples. Bogle was able to find the chemistry among their players to stay in the game until the end. Maples won 18-7, but it was definitely a win that didn’t come easy for the team, according to a press release. Maples next faces Go Flag Yourself, who are coming off a 33-6 loss against Cayman National Bank in the previous Friday’s games.
The reigning 2016 A-League champions, Burger Shack, are back out this weekend, facing off against Cayman National Bank at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Ed Bush field.
