Police in West Bay last week broke up a suspected illegal gambling operation, according to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service.

Two people, a man and a woman, were arrested in an April 13 police search at a home in the area of Mount Pleasant Road and West Church Street.

Officers found about $3,000 cash and other items “used for illegal gambling,” police said.

The 42-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possessing lottery tickets, selling lottery tickets, possession of criminal property and permitting a place to be used as a gambling house. Both were released on police bail.

During a later search at the same address, a counterfeit $100 Cayman Islands note was found, Police Superintendent Robert Graham said.

“The fact that counterfeit currency was also found shows that this type of illegal activity often goes hand in hand with other crimes,” Mr. Graham said.
