5-day outlook

The Cayman Islands can expect plenty of rain this week, as a widespread system sits over the northern Caribbean.

Environmental conditions will not be conducive to tropical development, according to the National Hurricane Center. Regardless, heavy rainfall is expected across the Cayman Islands, western Cuba and Florida for the coming days.

Showers should continue in Cayman for at least the next 24 hours and rainy weather is expected for the next five days, according to the Cayman Islands National Weather Service forecast.

Small craft should exercise caution, as rough waves reaching 4 to 6 feet are expected. The National Weather Service forecasts rough, high waves for the next five days.

The system currently sitting over Cayman is moving north to northwest.

As it moves through the gulf and toward the U.S. southern coast, gradual storm development is possible, the National Hurricane Center indicated.
