Festival of Seas gala makes a splash for CCMI

The dress code is nice and casual; perfect for those who eschew black tie affairs.

With the beautiful backdrop of the Caribbean Sea and the elegant ambiance that defines Grand Old House as a true Cayman favorite, the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) will be going all out for the Festival of Seas Awards and Gala on Saturday.

This gala is an annual must for many in the Cayman Islands, and with CCMI celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018, this is the one you don’t want to miss.

Guests will be greeted by a Vibrant Ocean cocktail while they enjoy the sounds of live guitar music, followed by an evening of open bar, a delicious locally inspired menu from the talented chefs at Grand Old House, special rums, hand-rolled cigars, dancing and more.

VIP keynote speaker

Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of the late Jacques Yves Cousteau, is the event’s special guest and will provide the keynote address. A National Geographic Emerging Explorer, filmmaker and globally recognized advocate on water issues, she continues her family’s legacy.

Awards ceremony

Festival of Seas will also honor members of the local community who have contributed to ocean and coral reef protection, conservation and restoration with an awards ceremony. Nominations were taken from members of the community, and they highlight the breadth and depth of work being done on behalf of the marine environment. Winners will be announced on the evening, with Alexandra Cousteau presenting the awards.

The ever-popular live auction always entertains, and everyone should be ready to bid on some amazing items. The silent auction will be a blast to participate in as well, as it is going mobile for the first time. All bidding will happen via your phone, and you will receive text messages when you are outbid. No more walking back to the silent auction tables to see what is going on with the items you want – simply grab a drink, talk to your friends and place your bids on your phone.

Whether you are bidding on a special trip to Argentina’s wine region, a one-of-a-kind piece of Dena Kempe jewelry, a 3L bottle of Veuve Clicquot, visiting the Explorer’s Club in New York, or a trip on an Aggressor liveaboard, there is something to get people excited and supporting CCMI’s vision of “vibrant oceans and healthy coral reefs.”

Tickets are $225 each and can be reserved online at reefresearch.org/gala2018. Find out more information about CCMI, the Festival of Seas, award nominees, and auction items by connecting with CCMI on Facebook at facebook.com/reefresearch.
