The Deputy Governor’s 5K Challenge had received more than half of its target for donations by last week, with major sponsors committing $41,500.
The funds were presented to Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, on Thursday, 5 Sept., pushing the total closer to its $70,000 goal, which will be divided among three charities – the Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, Special Needs Foundation Cayman and the Alex Panton Foundation.
Platinum sponsor Appleby has donated $17,500; gold sponsors EY, Butterfield, Davenport, Credit Union and Dart have committed $5,000 each; CINICO has donated $4,000.
Manderson thanked the sponsors when they presented their cheques, saying “I am thrilled we are on track with our ambitious fundraising goal this year.”
He added, “Providing tangible assistance to great causes like these is testament to the spirit of Caymankind in both the public and private sectors, who come together for the good of the community and to promote healthy exercise.”
Participants can register online at www.caymanactive.com/dg5K. The first 400 participants to sign up will receive a special, limited-edition cap sponsored by Appleby.
In addition, to promote sustainability, organisers are requesting people bring their own water bottles.
Discounts for flights and accommodation for the Cayman Brac event, set for Sunday, 15 Sept., are available through Cayman Airways (online only at www.caymanairways.com, with code AHC12) and Cayman Brac Beach Resort (948‑1323).
