Runners and bikers ready for duathlon

Ben Tonner, left, and Trevor Murphy of the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association are ready for this year's duathlon.

Run, ride and run.

The Cayman Islands Yacht Club in Governors Creek will play host to an interesting race on Sunday morning, when an estimated 100 competitors line up to contest the 2019 McGrath Tonner Duathlon.

The event will consist of three legs: A 2‑mile run, a 12‑mile bike ride and a closing 2‑mile run. Participants in the duathlon can sign up as individuals or as part of a team.

McGrath Tonner has sponsored the race twice previously, and a portion of the proceeds from Sunday’s event will be donated to Cayman Islands Meals on Wheels.

The race will begin at 6:30am to take advantage of cooler temperatures for the competitors.

Volunteers will be needed to serve as race marshals and guardians of the aid stations, and people interested in being a part of the event can email [email protected]

An individual entry for the event costs $30, while a two-person team costs $50 and a three-person team costs $60. All entrants must be members of the Cayman Islands Triathlon Association. Membership costs $15 annually and is available at registration.

Entries can be made via www.caymanactive.com/registrations/duathlon or on the day.
