Mystery boat under investigation

An investigation has been launched into the discovery of an abandoned vessel in George Town containing a quantity of barrels filled with liquid.

Police, in a statement to the Cayman Compass on Wednesday, said just after 9am Tuesday, officers discovered the small vessel docked on a reef area of South Church Street, George Town.

A video showing the vessel, its contents and Cayman patrol vessels have been making the rounds on social media.

The vessel, police said, contained barrels of liquid believed to be gasoline.

Searches were conducted in the surrounding areas where the vessel was discovered but there was nothing and no one found.

Police said the boat was seized.
