Store to donate 10,000 face masks

A local store will be donating 10,000 surgical masks to frontline workers in Cayman.

Buy Smart, located in Galleria Plaza, has received a shipment of 200,000 three-ply surgical masks and will be selling the rest to the general public. Masks are in high demand worldwide as the coronavirus crisis continues.

The store will also donate $2 from every purchase of a $24.97 20-mask pack to Meals on Wheels and Feed our Future, two charities which provide food to people in need in Cayman. In addition, it is also calling on customers to donate a dollar or two to the two charities when they buy the masks, according to a press release.

Buy Smart reached out to the Cayman Islands government to ensure the donated masks are distributed where they are most needed.

Store owner Mike Allen said in the release, “We are all in this together and helping charities who are doing their best to continue to serve the underserved in our community is important to us here at Buy Smart.”
