Cayman recorded 10 new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 on Tuesday and five in travellers, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Of the 10 community positives, most are staff and students from Clifton Hunter High School and First Baptist Christian School. This is the first time that First Baptist has been named among the affected schools.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Cayman to 128, including one patient who remains hospitalised. Of those, 55 people are symptomatic and 73 are asymptomatic.

There have been 1,232 PCR tests conducted since Monday.

Public Health also announced an immediate reduction in the isolation period for primary contacts of a positive COVID-19 case to 10 days, on the condition that everyone in the same household has been fully vaccinated at least 14 days prior to the contact with the positive case.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee, in a video message accompanying the written update, said, “Please follow the guidance from Public Health about your release from isolation. If unvaccinated people, including children, are part of your household, then you will need to continue to observe 14 days of isolation until being released following Public Health instruction. As we move forward with our reopening plans, this isolation period will be under constant review.”

Lee added, “This does not affect households where there is a positive case. These households must follow the guidance from Public Health staff.”

Vaccination update

Lee said 107,891 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Cayman since the start of the vaccination programme.

A total of 55,376 people have received first doses, representing 78% of the estimated population of 71,106, and 52,405 have completed the two-dose course, representing 74% of the population or 84% of those over the age of 12.

To date, 110 people have received a third, or booster, dose.
