A 26-year old West Bay man was arrested on suspicion of DUI late Thursday night after a vehicle smashed into a building and the driver of the vehicle recorded a blood-alcohol reading nearly three times over the legal limit.
The sports utility vehicle struck two men outside the building, who were taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI after attending officers said the man appeared to be intoxicated and he recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.263%, according to an RCIPS press release. The legal blood-alcohol limit in the Cayman Islands is 0.1%.
The incident happened about 11:20pm at a residence on Elizabeth Street, in West Bay. The vehicle struck the injured men, who were sitting outside the residence when the collision occurred. The building was also damaged in the collision.
The suspect was granted bail as investigations continue.
