The Public Health Department reported 125 new local transmission cases of COVID-19 in Cayman, bringing the islands’ total active cases to 1,421. Three more people have been hospitalised, meaning there are now 11 people with the virus in hospital.

Two patients are receiving supplemental oxygen, but there is currently no one on a ventilator and no children are among those in hospital, Public Health said in its latest update.

One new positive case involving a traveller was also reported in the total daily figures.

The department stated that the statistics released Thursday related to the COVID situation in Cayman as of 8am on Wednesday, 3 Nov. In the 24 hours before that, 1,115 PCR tests had been conducted.

It also noted that, as of 8am on Thursday, there were 76 active cases in the Sister Islands, which included four new cases.

Among the Sister Islands cases, 54 were symptomatic.

As of Thursday morning, there had been 116,507 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in Cayman. Of these, 56,887 (80% of the estimated population of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 54,690 (77%) have completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 4,930 (representing 26% of those over the age of 50) have had a third, or booster, dose. The booster programme is being expanded to teachers, police, fire fighters, Customs and Border Control officers, and prison staff, as well as to those over the age of 40.
