69 new local COVID cases reported

Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee has reported that, as of 8am Tuesday, 1,259 PCR tests had been conducted in the 24 hours since Monday, with the Public Health Department confirming there were 73 positive results.

Of those new COVID cases, four were in travellers and 69 were from the community, according the the latest update, which was issued Tuesday evening.

These results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 2,185, taking the total cases recorded since the start of the pandemic to 3,427.

According to the update, 4,574 people were in quarantine either in government isolation facilities or at home.

In addition, there were 14 COVID-19 patients hospitalised in the Cayman Islands.

On Cayman Brac, Faith Hospital said there were 82 active cases in the Sister Islands, with four identified in the previous 24 hours.

The Public Health Department confirmed that, up to 8am on Tuesday, there had been a total of 865 positive lateral flow test results since the introduction of that testing programme in the Cayman Islands.

According to the latest update, there have been a total of 118,285 COVID-19 vaccinations given in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 57,105 people (80% of a population of 71,106) had taken at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 54,857 individuals (77%) had completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 6,323 people had received a third, or booster, dose.
