85 new COVID-19 cases reported; 14 patients in hospital

Eighty-five people tested positive for COVID-19 from the latest batch of 1,006 PCR tests, according to a Government Information Services statement issued on the evening of Friday, 3 Dec. on behalf of Chief Medical Officer Dr. John Lee.

All are from the community.

“These results brought the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands to 3,866 as at 8 a.m. on Friday, 3 December,” reads the statement. “The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic stood at 7,529 as at the same time.”

According to Public Health, 3,852 people are in isolation either at government facilities or at home.

Fourteen patients were hospitalized with COVID-19, as of 8am on Friday.

“The Public Health Department also confirmed that up to 8 a.m. on Friday, 3 December there had been 1,961 total positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of the lateral flow test programme in the Cayman Islands, which are included in the total positive numbers given above,” the statement said.

No new cases were identified on the Sister Islands in the past 24 hours, Public Health reported. However, 14 active cases are being monitored.

“To date, there had been 120 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 106 having recovered,” said Public Health. “Out of the total number of cases in the sister islands 62 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 52 were unvaccinated.”

The vaccination status of the patients on Grand Cayman was not released.

Broader vaccination figures for the country show that 125,619 COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered in the Cayman Islands.

Of those, 58,186 people, or 82% of the population, had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. While 56,210 individuals, or 79%, had completed the two-dose course.

An additional 11,667 people, or 16% of the population, have received a booster dose.
