A tourism job fair offering more than 200 positions for Caymanians and permanent residents will be held on Thursday afternoon, 9 Dec.
Organisers say jobs are available in several tourism and hospitality areas, including food and beverage, culinary, and beach and pool service at hotels.
Anyone interested in attending is required to register beforehand at the Tourism Job Fair website.
The fair will be held at the Governor’s Ballroom in the Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort, from 1pm to 4pm.
Those attending are asked to bring a copy of their current resume, and to “dress for the part”.
During the job fair, attendees will be able to find out about the opportunities available in the hospitality industry, and to speak and interview with employers at hotels and restaurants.
Among the companies that will be represented at the job fair are The Ritz-Carlton, the Westin, Kimpton Seafire, Marriott, Tukka East and West, Abacus, Karoo, Grand Old House, The Wharf, Rum Point and the Parrot Sanctuary.
Hundreds of people, including Caymanians, permanent residents and work-permit holders, lost their jobs after Cayman’s borders closed in March last year in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As the islands gear up for the phased return of tourists, following the removal of quarantine for incoming travellers on 20 Nov., hotels and restaurants are trying to re-staff their businesses.
According to a Department of Tourism survey carried out earlier this year, 87% of the displaced 3,107 local tourism workers questioned said they would like to return to the same job that they held before the pandemic. To help tide them over while the borders remained closed, nearly 3,400 displaced workers have been receiving monthly stipends of $1,500.
Thursday’s job fair is being organised in collaboration between the Department and Ministry of Tourism, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association and Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman.
