A church was among two buildings burglarised in George Town over the Christmas holiday weekend, the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service has confirmed.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, police said officers responded to an alarm at the Walkers Road church shortly after 2.30am on 28 Dec.

Police said when officers visited the scene, they saw a window screen at the rear of the building was removed and the window pushed-in.

A front window screen had also been removed, a window on the right-hand side of the building had been broken and the front door was unlocked, police said.

On entering the building, officers observed that the office door had been pried open and the office ransacked.

Police said it is unclear whether anything was stolen at this time.

It comes after police said officers responded to a burglary report at a restaurant on Walkers Road on Christmas Day, 25 Dec.

An employee had locked up the establishment around 8.30pm on 24 Dec., police said, and the following day another employee stopped by the establishment to discover it had been broken into.

Officers found a window at the rear of the building had been forced open.

Inside, the establishment had been ransacked and several items were reported stolen including electronic items and consumable goods.

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information regarding either of these commercial burglaries, to call the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

  1. Gradually, gradually we can no longer tout the low crime rate in Grand Cayman.
When I first moved here 40 years ago I would never lock my car door when parked.
Now it would be madness to do so.
Nor would a woman be concerned walking alone on West Bay Road at night.
