Seven people found offshore in East End have been placed in mandatory quarantine at a government-approved facility, the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service has confirmed.
According to a CBC statement issued on Wednesday night, the seven were initially found in the waters off Cayman Brac on the 28 Dec., but they decided to carry on with their journey at the time.
However, the CBC said last evening (29 Dec.) their vessel was located by the Cayman Islands Coast Guard off East End.
The Coast Guard declared the vessel to be unsafe and, as such, the passengers were processed in keeping with COVID-19 protocols and will placed in mandatory quarantine, the CBC said.
A government spokesperson, responding to Compass questions, was unable to confirm the nationalities of the seven people involved.
“They are still being processed and part of the process is confirming nationality,” the spokesperson said.
This latest incident follows the landing of a vessel with six people on board, which arrived on Cayman Brac on Christmas Day.
Those six were also managed in accordance with COVID-19 processing protocols and were transported to Grand Cayman for mandatory quarantine in a government-approved facility.
