You may have read recently in the Cayman Compass that local young musician, Dequan Smith, is going from strength-to-strength while mastering his chosen instrument, the cello.
Already accepted to one of the UK’s most prestigious music institutions – the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland – he was also chosen as a finalist for the 2022 BritchamDR Young Musician of the Caribbean Award.
After competing in the Dominican Republic on 26 March, he will be returning to the Cayman Islands, along with pianist Sejin Yoon from South Korea, a finalist in the 2020 BBC Young Musician Award.
The two will be performing a recital at the Cayman Islands Baptist Church in Savannah on Wednesday, 6 April at 7pm, with works by Max Bruch, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Claude Debussy and Johannes Brahms.
This an opportunity to see two exceptional musicians, as well as congratulate Dequan on his successes. Of course everyone here at home is hoping he’ll be walking away with the Young Musician of the Caribbean Award, and is wishing him the best of luck.
Tickets are US$30 for adults and US$10 for students. Buy online at eventbrite, visit www.caymanartsfestival.com, email [email protected] or call 922-5550.
