Caymanian amateur boxer Hepseba Angel lost a unanimous decision to Khadichabonu Abdullaeva of Uzbekistan during their opening match on Monday, 9 May, at the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
Following the bout, Hepseba’s head coach Liam Brereton told the Cayman Compass that he was pleased with his athlete’s performance.
“She made a big impression tonight,” Brereton said about his student, who now holds a 3-3 record. “I could not be any prouder of her.”
Angel will continue training in Ireland alongside Brereton, with hopes of qualifying for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
