Four injured in Shamrock Road crash

Four people, including one with life-threatening injuries, were treated in hospital after a two-car collision on Shamrock Road on Sunday night.

Police said emergency services were dispatched to the scene of the accident near Spotts Newlands Road shortly after 10:20pm, following the collision between a white Hyundai minivan and a blue Ford Sport Trac truck.

The driver, who was the only person in the Hyundai, had to be extricated from the vehicle by a fire service crew. He, and all three occupants of the Ford truck, were transported to hospital for treatment.

Two of the patients – the Hyundai driver and a rear-seat passenger in the Ford truck – remained in hospital Monday, police said. The passenger of the Ford suffered “serious and life-threatening injuries”, while the mini-van driver has also suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it to contact the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit on 946-6254 or 949-4222; the RCIPS confidential tip line at 947-7777 or its website; or leave a tip at Cayman Crime Stoppers online.
